Sponsor a young person

Every young person should have the right to an education; however for many young people in Ndhiwa this is impossible without financial help.

Don't they deserve a chance?

In Ndhiwa it is not just poverty but also gender that determines your future. Girls are often denied the chance they need to ever realise their full potential. Poor families are often keep girls at home to carry out chores to support the family rather than send them to school. Many children do not stay on into secondary education; girls especially often leave at the end of free primary schooling. All Secondary schools charge fees. Fee's vary from £100 - £400 per year

Your sponsorship could pay for girls to learn valuable skills to help them on their way to a long term career, something most young women in Kenya are deprived of.

Sponsor a young person to attend secondary school or a young person who has left school with no qualifications and needs to learn some practical skills. We provide vocational skills training and pay Higher Education fees for exceptionally gifted students

Become a sponsor and you’ll be helping a young person, their family and their whole community.

Education: The basic foundation of life

Though it is the most important activity within our community, most parents believe that the boy child is the one that should get an education.

Once boys have reached the adulthood, they are expected to get married and have their families. Men are not expected to move to another village. All the 'wealth' they obtained when they got their education is being utilized within their family. Unlike a girl child who will migrate with the 'wealth' she got from school, it will be utilized in her new matrimonial home.

Due to that belief, parents within our community prefer taking boy child to school; hence girl child is denied education.

Girls have so many difficulties when they are pursuing their education, but they perform much better than boys, this is because they are more determined in their school work. They are only being defeated by boys because they have all of work to do when they are home from school ; they will have to come home to wash plates, cook supper, and clean the house

Importance of Education to Girl child

They will be able to support their families when their husbands are dead and will not have to depend on someone for help because they will have the knowledge therefore they can do any business.

They will have enlightened mind hence they can help in fighting the traditional norms that do bind the women in our society. For example, they help in fighting the women circumcision, which is barbaric & woman inheritance. (The two can lead to the spread of HIV/AIDS.), they can also help in fighting for women to inherit land in their maternal home.

They can help in encouraging other parents to take their children to school.

Though in our community it is believed that taking a boy to school is a better investment, nowadays girls who are educated are the ones that assist their parents in terms of finance.

To encourage girl child education, parents should be encouraged to understand the importance of education.

Leaders within our community should play important roles in their community. (Act as role models by taking their girl child to school to encourage school attendance.)
